One thing I thought I’d try to do was do a few CD reviews. I’m a big music fan and I really like discovering new music and getting new CDs of old favorites. To me, Third Eye Blind is like your favorite old movie from your childhood. You can remember every little detail, repeat the movie line for line, and watch it over and over again without it getting dull. I’m pretty sure my dad gave me a steady diet of Third Eye Blind as I was growing up because I’m pretty sure I could recognize the melodies and lyrics before I understood music. But that was the past and this is now; they released a new album in August this year and I finally got my hands on it. So lets see where this one ranks.

1. Can You Take Me - The album starts with great energy and really pulls you in. Also contains the great line: “I’ve got the velocity and all I need now is the mass”. This song should be downloaded. Similar: “10 Days Late” (Blue), “Danger” (Out of the Vein)

2. Don’t Believe A Word - Another great TEB song and one of their singles. This one has a great chance of becoming a classic and is in line with some of their songs off their original albums. Needs to be downloaded.

3. Bonfire - Bonfire confuses me for some reason. I really like it but it falls between 2 great tracks and while I can remember Don’t Believe A Word and Sharp Knife, Bonfire eludes me. Maybe because its a tone down compared to the first 2 tracks.

4. Sharp Knife - Maybe my favorite track off the album. The slow start paired with the upbeat melody makes it a keeper. I love the imagery in this song, the sharp knife metaphor.

5. One In Ten - Hit or miss track and its a miss for me. Its very simple but Jenkins voice sounds detached for a song that supposed to sound intimate and personal. Good trumpet action here though.

6. About To Break - Third Eye Blind comes right back with another strong song. Its a sad song that sort of reminds me of “Narcolepsy”. Unfortunately, it falls in line with “Bonfire” in that it can be lost in the album. It deserves to be played though.
